Trekking and nature in the Gran Paradiso National Park

Discover nature by walking in the most famous valleys and hidden corners  of Aosta Valley and the Gran Paradiso National Park.
Guided by a professional mid-mountain guide, photographer and expert on the local fauna and flora. The right opportunity to appreciate the Aosta Valley in all its beauty, culture and traditions.

A briefing (video call)  will be organised in order to get to know the group’s needs, share logistical aspects and inform about the daily activities.

Programme

The choice of itineraries will be proposed by the tour leader and agreed with the participants.

Transportation to the different treks will be by private minivan

Day 1 The Aosta Valley, heart of the Alps

Pick up at Milano  Airport (Malpensa or Linate) and  transfer (200 km)  to Introd (Aosta, Italy).

Accomodation in hotel. Free dinner.

Introd is a characteristic village located at the junction of Val di Rhemes and Valsavaranche. It is the ideal base for moving around the entire park territory, and also for excursions and visits in the central valley, from Aosta to Courmayeur.

Day  2  Start!

Meeting at 9 a.m. at the hotel.

Presentation briefing, equipment check, weather forecast assessments.
First hike to assess the condition and skills of individual participants.

Ascent Croux de Bouque 1715m  Height difference: 880m 5.9 Km
A beautiful hike in the woods and pastures above the historic village of Introd.
The itinerary, which crosses the larch forest, a place dear to the Pope John Paul II,  who spent many summer stays here. First follows a path and then a farm track until reaching the Plan du Saint-Père and then arriving at the rocky spur called Croux de Bouque, where there is a  holy cross and a stone altar. From this vantage point, an oasis of peace, you can enjoy a splendid panorama of the Mont Blanc massif and the so-called ‘Plaine di Aosta’.

Day 3  Facing Mont Blanc
Height difference 973m – 23Km (7h)
From the Col du Petit St Bernard a hike for lovers of long treks through Alpine valleys and ever-changing landscapes. We will reach the Col de Chavannes where we can admire the Val Veny and Mont Blanc. Return along the famous Sentiero Italia to la Thuile.

Day 4  Nature animals in the Gran Paradiso Park
Ring tour to Pont Valsavaranche and Vallone della Meyes
Height difference 680m
Excursion to observe the ibexes of the Gran Paradis Park and admire the imposing peak of the Gran Paradiso (4061 m), the only  “full italian”4000 m peak

Day 5  The history of mountaineering
Height difference: 400m
Rest day. Walk in Val Ferret with a visit to the typical Valdostan houses.
Possible ascent to the hut named after the famous mountaineer Walter Bonatti.

Day 6  The Paradise Huts
Height difference: 1050m
an exciting ring-route linking the Chabod Refuge with the Vittorio Emanuele II Refuge in the historic Valdostan Mountain Hut on the slopes of the Gran Paradiso massif.

Day 7  Ready for the climb to the all-Italian 4000?

Breakfast and departure… but for those who want to stay, by now well-trained, it is possible to organise the ascent to the summit of Gran Paradiso: the only ‘4000 m peaks’ entirely on Italian territory.

Transfer to departure airport.

Training is required for hikes of 4 to 6  hours per day.

Comfortable hiking clothing, hiking boots. Windbreaker, cap, gloves .

Trekking backpack (30 liters)

IMPORTANT NOTE

Before departure, the guide contacts all participants for useful information about the trip and the necessary equipment.
The programme may be subject to change at the sole discretion of the guide depending on weather conditions and the technical level of the participants.
In the event of changes to the programme, for reasons beyond the guide’s control, any additional costs will be divided between the participants.

Health insurance  (not included in the fee) is compulsory for participants not resident in Italy.

Payments: 30% deposit on booking, balance 30 days before departure date.

Closing date for bookings 2024,  June 30th

Cancellation fee: 30 % of the participation fee (100 % for cancellations less than 30 days before departure date)
